I built this project with plans from The NewYankee Workshop series of Shaker style furniture. The plans are provided in Norm Abrahm’s book and television broadcast.
The construction is intermediate skill level and took about 20 hours to complete to the finishing stage. Rather than mortise and tennon joinery for the drawer runner frames, I chose to use Kreg pocket-hole screws to connect the pieces.
The most difficult aspect of this project was the use of 6-8”-wide pine boards. Gluing up panels is not my forte’ and getting a perfectly flat panel from pine has always been a challenge for me. Mastering this skill will take more practice.
The half-blind dovetails (drawers) were an enjoyable learning experience. Reading tool instructions doesn’t come easy for me, but finally comprehending the jig settings gives me confidence to move forward on future projects.
The finish is a basic pre-stain conditioner, cherry stain coat, and three poly coats.
